The arrival of smartphones, and being able to be connected with the world via a small device that fits in your pocket, has improved our lives considerably but has also created some new problems for society.
One problem is that people are spending more and more time glued to the small screen of their phone, even when they are in the company of others.
Why do some people need to look at their phone every couple of minutes?
Is the world really going to stop spinning if you don’t look at it?
It’s like an addiction, they need their dose of connection to make them feel better or maybe “wanted”.
Why bother going out with someone if you aren’t going to pay full attention to them?
Think of the time before smartphones and imagine the person in front of you looking all around the room at the different people and things happening instead of you. Rude isn’t it?
Well the same thing is happening when you are looking at all the things happening on your phone. Again, it’s rude.
It’s like you prefer being with others instead of the person in front of you and it doesn’t show respect at all.
It also makes me laugh when you see a group of people at a pub, café or other social event and they are all looking at their phones instead of talking to each other.
Why did you get together in the first place? You could have done the same thing at home!
So the next time you are with friends of family, show a little respect and put your phone away.
Put your phone away and pay attention to those talking to you. There’s even an App for that… it’s called respect.
How do you feel when people spend more time looking at their phone instead of you?
Do you say or do anything?
